Artists Anna Perlin

“For as long as I can remember I have loved drawing and painting, and although I didn’t train formally in art I decided fairly early on that I wanted to be a full time artist.

Growing up in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside I wanted to paint my love of nature, and the British landscape as well as my much loved garden still inspire much of my work.

Pattern is a big part of all my work, as is colour, and I use both to find contrasts and cohesion in a painting. After initially exploring different media and print making techniques I discovered a way of working with fabric collage and mixed media which gives my work a mix of texture and depth. I like to use patterns from the fabric collage alongside mixed media which helps to deconstruct the detail whilst keeping an element of form and structure."

Following a degree in Textile Design and Marketing Anna initially worked in retail whilst exploring her love of painting through joining a local art society and taking part in evening art groups. After starting to exhibit in local exhibitions and winning several best in show awards she realised she didn’t want to regret not taking her passion for art further and became a full time artist.

In 2016 Anna was selected to appear on the second series of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year and she made it through to the semi-finals after winning her heat at Wray Castle in the Lake District.

In 2017 Anna won Artists and Illustrators Artist of the Year.

She creates all her work from her home studio in Hertfordshire.
