The inspiration for Jacky's paintings comes from two sources. Her training in ceramics and career as garden designer bring together the two aspects obvious in her still life paintings.
The stylised flowers and pots are composed using traditional mathematical approaches to design to combine formality and informality. The paintings are only finished when the balance of these two aspects are achieved and the colours fuse together into a harmonious whole.
As a horticulturalist Jacky loves plants and the forms of flowers. For her paintings she takes the flowers out of context and put them into a domestic setting. As a trained ceramicist she has always been fascinated by the shapes of pots, and these feature in her work. She likes to explore the relationship between the transitory nature of the cut plant in contrast to the permanent solidity of the pot.
