Jane was born in 1954 and lives in rural Somerset with her painter husband, David. She has a connection to and an understanding of the continuity of ordinary life in the landscape. Her paintings also reflect her interest in art history, particularly of the mid - 20th Century, and a great love for the work of Samuel Palmer and Pierre Bonnard. Drawing, colour and balance of form are of equal importance in her practice.
After completing a degree in painting a chance meeting with an archaeologist resulted in Jane working at Stonehenge as a digger and draughtswoman. She was excited and moved by the immediate connection to the people who lived over time in that ancient place. Her strength in drawing and painting figures and landscapes led her to become a specialist illustrator, collaborating with archaeologists to make images of past lives. She was series illustrator on BBC 2’s Meet the Ancestors and has work in numerous publications and museums, including the British Museum.
