Artist Statement

I like painting people and animals in everyday life and domestic activities in a colourful and cheerful way. A few years living in rural France and on a narrow boat provide inspiration. Now based in Wimbledon… rows of terraced homes and allotments and dog walking on the common are current themes.

I went to Camberwell School of Art and  obtained a BA (Hons) and worked as a freelance illustrator for 3 years for the Radio Times, BBC for Schools, and various publishing houses such as Kestrel books (Gudrun), Hamlyn and MacMillan publishing.

I was elected to the prestigious Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1996 and The Society of Graphic Fine Artists in 2015, and The Small Paintings Group in 2024.

Awards I have won include the Debra Manifold prize (Linda Blackstone Gallery) and The Dry Red Press Award (Mall Galleries), The Kingsmead Award (Mall Galleries) Artist of the Year competition run by Artists and Illustrators magazine in 2008 and 2018. I also won an award in the Global Artists competition in conjunction with Bridgeman Images and prizes for Christmas card designs with Royal Academy Enterprises.

I exhibit regularly with the Mall Galleries London, and the Russell Gallery London, and am represented by Bridgeman Images. My images are used for various projects such as jigsaw puzzles (Victory Wooden Puzzles, Liberty Puzzles and Wentworth to name a few); calendars, greeting cards;  book covers, editorial content, and magazines like the cover of Country Life 2020 and 2021, Cotswold Life and The Richmond.
