My practice centres around the relationships of space, shape and colour, created by the interplay between drawing, painting and collage.
The process of mark making and layering, informed by observations of natural environmental processes, eg. textures and marks left behind through decay/neglect, industrial architecture/landscapes and random associations of objects and surfaces, are all important factors in my work.
Paintings evolve intuitively to FIND rather than MAKE the image. I continue to build up and simplify until the composition settles cohesively. I want each piece to 'surprise' me and then hope the viewer will see a painting they can connect with in their own way, while still retaining some mystery and intrigue.
