My work is bold and big, often using large knives and spatulas to achieve exciting and varied surface textures.
I love to use broad sweeping brush strokes which helps me capture beautiful backdrops and light to be found in a scene. I try to inject vibrancy, light and shade and find unusual perspectives.
My style rejects my old graphic designer work and frees me up to concentrate on mood and the emotion in a scene. For me, it is what a scene feels like, rather than what it looks like.
I have a passion for the river, especially the Thames and marine life, its amazing bridges as well as the vast array of boats.
1985-89: HND(Hons) Fine Art & Graphic Design, Amersham Art College
Richard studied Graphic Design and worked in London, Sydney, Brighton and Bath.
Richard eventually missed the hands-on sketching and painting he grew up with and felt inhibited by the computer process. Richard started street painting in Bath and moved back to Marlow in 2018 where he now lives and loves painting the Thames Valley.
