Artists Sarah Bricknell

The rhythm of walking every day with an exuberant dog, following paths through local landscapes, and just breathing, became an important part of recovering from breast cancer and managing the impacts of parents with Alzheimer’s.

My experience of the day-to-day impacts of change and aging is resolved in the landscape, particularly my physical response to colour. The pictures are often an amalgam of several views expressing how I feel outdoors and walking in all weather, following the seasons, and framing compositions against high skylines in the Chiltern Hills.  I am interested in pattern and texture, drawing into and underneath acrylic paint with mixed media, sometimes sanding back to build layers as I see history in the land.  My work is mainly on board as the most robust surface to create texture.
