Artists Sian Van Driel

I have been drawn and inspired by the natural environment, immersing myself in nature and observing natures rich tapestry, whether it be patterns across a landscape along a coastline or cast shadows falling across a pathway.

In my recent making practice, I translate these observed qualities by directly drawing with marks on paper and clay. The works on paper, including Japanese paper, are followed by inks watercolour earth pigments and gold leaf.

The works with clay have been constructed by using a selection of clays, including black and white stoneware porcelain and bone china.

The works are abstract in form and have a mediative quality.

Sian van Driel is a British Artist who spent her childhood in Canada and Italy. Returning to the UK she was introduced to clay at school. This keen interest lead her to attending West Surrey College of Art and Design where she graduated in Three Dimensional Design (Ceramics). After leaving art school, Sian continued to explore and investigate clay and other materials. This has resulted her exhibiting nationally and internationally.

Sian now is based in West Sussex in the heart of the South Downs National Park.
