In the latest episode of Behind the Canvas, entitled ‘The Healing Power of Landscapes’, hosts Simon Burgess and Tracey Hayden caught up with artist Bridget Greenwood. This episode explores Bridget's artistic journey, from her initial interest in art to her evolution during the lockdown, where she rediscovered her passion for painting.

During this intimate discussion, Bridget talks the listeners through the healing power of landscapes, her artistic process, the importance of colour in her work and the challenges she faces as a new artist. Bridget also touches on the significance of sharing art, building relationships with galleries, and advice for aspiring artists.

About Bridget

Bridget Greenwood’s art is deeply rooted in her emotional connection to landscapes, blending intentional composition with the freedom of intuitive, unplanned expression. Her acrylic paintings are characterised by muted, harmonious palettes that evoke a sense of calm and serenity. While often inspired by places she has walked or photographed, Bridget's work does not aim to replicate real landscapes - instead, she lets their essence emerge naturally.

Bridget’s work can be experienced at the Hayden Gallery, online via Instagram, or in-person at exhibitions, offering an intimate connection to the healing power of art.

Rediscovering a passion for painting during lockdown

With her job on hold and limited distractions, Bridget discovered her passion for painting during lockdown. Turning to art to fill her time, Bridget began working with collages and acrylics in her conservatory. This creative exploration reignited her love for painting, leading her to take online courses and, in 2021, complete the intensive Creative Visionary Programme. This pivotal experience inspired her to fully commit to becoming a professional artist, dedicating herself to her craft with unwavering focus.

The healing power of landscapes

For Bridget, landscapes represent a profound source of healing and solace. During lockdown, daily walks became an essential way for her to process her emotions, particularly as she coped with her sister's terminal cancer diagnosis and eventual loss. After her sister passed, the natural beauty of landscapes became a sanctuary and a space for emotional recovery.

Importance of relationships with galleries

Bridget discusses the key role that galleries play in an artist’s career. She shares how Tracey Hayden, Owner of Hayden Gallery, immediately understood her artistic vision and process. It was clear from their conversation that Tracey truly resonated with the direction of Bridget’s work. This connection led Bridget to feel confident that working with Tracey would be a partnership that would support her continued growth and creativity.
