There's a risk that concentration on only commercially successful artists may lead to a stagnation of creativity and innovation in the art world. By focusing solely on what is guaranteed to sell.
As you may know Hayden Gallery has been going for a massive 6 months and we are just about to launch our 4th exhibition (End of Winter Exhibition) . We are constantly surprised by the wonderful artists that we meet and exhibit.
So it's very sad to witness the closure of many independent galleries, which serve as vital platforms for emerging and lesser-known artists to showcase their work. The dominance of larger group galleries can indeed limit the diversity and variety of artistic expression available to the public, as these galleries may prioritise well-known artists or those with proven commercial success.
This narrowing of opportunities for emerging artists not only impacts their ability to gain visibility and recognition but also diminishes the overall richness and diversity of the art scene. Moreover, it perpetuates a cycle where only established artists receive support and exposure, further marginalising those who are trying to break into the industry.
There's a risk that this concentration on only commercially successful artists may lead to a stagnation of creativity and innovation in the art world. By focusing solely on what is guaranteed to sell.
OK I'll just get off my soap box now.
